As if China's Problems Aren't Bad Enough Already
10/7/2007
No-one doubts China's supremacy when it come to the population stakes. It sit rights up there commanding number one spot as the most populated land of this fair earth. This is some feat considering the advancements and options in ways to, ahem, avoid the ending up with the proverbial bun in the oven.
Yet China is now looking to lay the blame elsewhere. Where is that place? Firmly on the internet, specifically on dating sites. You see, in recent times, attitudes towards sex have been relaxed and so there are more extramarital relationships.
Stats quoted by the state media claim as much as half of all pregnant teens in Shanghai met their partners on the internet. These stats are based on reports from Zhang Zhengrong, a doctor who oversees the city's first-aid hotline for pregnant teens. He specifically states that 46 percent of the more than 20,000 teenage girls who called the hotline over the past two years said they had had sex with boys they met on the Internet.
Zhang's proposed solution is for parents, teachers and society to take a bigger interest in sex education rather than letting teenagers learn all there is to know from the internet.

Despite previous speculation that Vodafone were on winning form to secure the Apple iPhone contract, O2 is the company that has reportedly won the contract. Press coverage has quoted that O2 will be signing the contract shortly. As a bonus, O2 hope to have the iPhone on sale in the UK by Christmas time.
Given the popularity of the iPhone so far, this should mean big things for O2. More than 500,000 iPhones have been sold in the US in the first weekend.
Early indication is that the handsets will sell in the UK for around the £300 mark. Even at the price, O2 are hoping the status symbol that the iPhone has become will be strong enough for the phone to be an instant success.
