Real Web Bought to Smartphones

29/1/2008

When WAP first ventured onto the scene, it was hailed as the all you needed to surf the web, but with lacklustre phones and actual limited sites optimised for WAP browsing, the technology has fallen by the wayside.

Real Web Bought to SmartphonesNew smartphones have taken over and provide users with access to the ‘real’ internet where you can browse just like sitting at a desktop. Even though however, speeds and functionality available can be disappointing and frustration soon builds up.

Skyfire have addressed the problem by building a new web browser that claims to makes browsing on your phone just like browsing on your desktop. The new application apparently allows increased and access to dynamic Flash, advanced Ajax, Java, and more.

The application also comes equipped with bookmarking functionality, multiple tabs, fullscreen navigation, thumbnail views, and dynamic zooming.

Sony and MTV Link Together For PSP Content

25/1/2008

Sony have announced that they will be making Universal Media Discs (UMDs) available with content from MTV.  The move comes to meet the demands from consumers as Phil Rosenberg, senior vice president of sales and business development at Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) stated:

“This collaboration with MTV is a first step in meeting the needs of our consumers, who are utilising the PSP as a video player more than ever and are thirsting for more content, particularly short-form videos”.

Sony and MTV Link Together For PSP Content“MTV’s programming is hugely popular, and SCEA can utilise our internal resources to appropriately manage the publishing and distribution of these hit shows on UMD”
The hit shows that Phil refers to fall into the camp of usual MTV fare, such as Beavis & Butthead: The Mike Judge Collections, Jackass, Wildboyz, Viva La Bam, and Aeon Flux: The Complete Animated Collection.

Sony is confident that the new direction will work based on their sales figures of over 10 million PSP users in North America and the recent launch of a new slimmer and lighter versions of the PSP.

Change in CD Copying Law?

18/1/2008

Change in CD Copying Law?Despite nearly all of us doing it, it’s a little known fact that copying a CD to your PC or MP3 player is still a criminal offence. Given that it is so widespread and people are unaware, the Department of Innovation, Universities, and Skills has put forward a new law that will legalise the activity.

The move hasn’t been welcomed by all though. The music trade has commented that the move will allow ‘uncontrolled and unstoppable’ copying and sharing from one person to another.  This may be all well and good, but we fail to believe how this move can make things any worse, given the majority of us (going full circle), don’t even know it’s an offence at the moment.

The initial consultation ends on 7th March, so look out for further developments after that.
